ICAR KVK Launches 3 Agriculture Innovation Projects
The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) MYRADA launched three innovative projects here: a micro food processing unit, a herbal treated fodder bank, and agricultural drones.
India, which has one-seventh of the world's population, depends on agriculture and related industries for its economic stability. India's main source of income is agriculture in all its forms. Modern technology can help Indian farmers maximize the potential of their land.
On Tuesday, District Collector H. Krishnanunni, in the presence of P. Alagesan, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR KVK MYRADA, launched the projects in collaboration with Rotary Club of Gobichettipalayam on KVK premises in Gobichettipalayam.
The Collector virtually inaugurated the Kongahalli in Talavadi Block micro food processing unit and herbal treated fodder bank projects. In addition, the Collector launched a demonstration of the innovative Herboliv+ system for managing wild animals using drone spraying technology.
The repellant, sprayed on crops via drone, not only prevents wild animals from damaging crops, but also acts as a growth promoter, increasing productivity. The Collector stressed the importance of scaling up these innovative technologies through Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
He also gave out certificates to high school and college students who had gone through paddy farming training. Farmers were given herbal-treated fodder to feed their cattle during the lean season. Alagesan emphasised KVK's innovative projects and the advantages of using drones in agriculture.
K. Shanmugasundaram, president of the Rotary Club of Gobichettipalayam, explained the Rotary Club's role in improving farmers' and rural people's livelihoods. G.V. Sudharshan, Project Chairman, discussed the effectiveness of drone spraying in agricultural operations. A total of 78 farmers and students took part in the programme.
