ICAR-NDRI Organizes Three-Day Dairy Fair: Bovine Beauty Steals the Show!
At the Bovine beauty pageant show, a variety of indigenous cows and buffaloes walked the stage organized by the ICAR.
On Sunday, during the second day of the three-day National Dairy Mela organized by the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal, flocks of indigenous cows and buffaloes walked the stage at a bovine beauty pageant show.
The motive of this competition, which was a hit, was promoting indigenous breeds and raising awareness among farmers about different breeds.
About 400 animals were registered for the event, and the team of experts had a tough time judging them based on their size, overall appearance, length of horns, and milk yielding capacity.
Dr Dheer Singh, Director, ICAR-NDRI, said beauty, milking, and cheese making competitions were organized. A farmers’ sangoshthi, where lectures were delivered by scientists on natural farming, animal nutrition, diseases of dairy animals, how to produce clean milk, fodder production, value addition/processing of milk, and management, breeds of dairy animals, soil health, and the integrated farming system was also arranged. Subject matter experts answered the farmers’ queries and, progressive farmers were honoured during the sangoshthi, he added.
Meanwhile, three media persons namely Himanshu Narang, Kamal Midha, and Mukul Kumar, were allegedly attacked by the wrongdoers while covering the event. The journalists received injuries and filed a complaint at the Civil Lines police station against them.
