ICRISAT Launched Course on Starting Small Scale Food Processing Enterprises in the Millet Value Chain

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) will hold a specialized course titled ‘Starting Small Scale Food Processing Enterprises in the Millet Value Chain’ aimed at empowering women and youth in the millet value chain from February 11 to March 2, 2024. The course is being organized with support from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC). The larger goal of encouraging sustainable agricultural and economic development is in line with this endeavor.

Aim & Objective of Course:

The primary goal of this course is to create awareness among various stakeholders about the potential of small-scale food processing enterprises within the millet value chain. It seeks to provide skills and hands-on experience to stakeholders involved in agricultural commodity value chains. By doing so, the course aims to safeguard public health and ensure fair trade practices.

Target Group

The course is tailored for a diverse group of participants including government officials and field-level functionaries from various departments such as Agriculture, Women and Child Welfare, Rural Health Ministries, and Agri-Business, among others. Participants are expected to come from countries in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. This diverse representation ensures a holistic approach to addressing challenges and opportunities in the millet value chain.

Diverse Participation from 11 Countries

Participants from 11 countries will converge to explore various aspects of millet, including its varieties, properties, processing techniques, nutritional aspects, and more. Over three weeks, they will engage in interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and knowledge-sharing activities. By exchanging experiences and best practices, participants will gain valuable insights to enhance their respective millet value chains back home.

Through collaboration and capacity-building efforts, This course is poised to catalyze positive change in the agricultural landscape, ensuring food security, economic prosperity, and enhanced livelihoods for all stakeholders involved.
