IIM Bodh Gaya signs MoU with Bihar's Water Resource Department

The director of IIM Bodh Gaya, Vinita Sahay, and the director of the state water and land management institute, Padma Kant Jha signed the MoU at a function held at Gyan Bhawan.

Minister for Water Resources and Information & Public Relations, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Water Resources department’s Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, and Engineer–in–Chief Rabindra Kumar Shanker were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the audience, Jha mentioned that the MoU is a landmark move in the direction of agricultural development in the state. He said that the unification of management and engineering would provide lasting solutions for the various problems regarding water resources.

Officers would be able to tackle the problems related to floods and droughts more efficiently with proper training, he added.

Jha highlighted the importance of proper training adding that IIM Bodh Gaya can help build management capability and leadership among the engineers of the department. Rabindra Kumar Shanker added to the same by saying that leadership and management training will improve the performance of the department significantly.

Agarwal highlighted the requirement of developing the management capability of the engineers as most of them are virtually practicing managers.

The MoU contemplates that in an agricultural state like Bihar, there is a critical need for developing an efficient irrigation system since the state’s distinctive geographical distribution makes it difficult to protect life and property from floods.
