IISc. & Aster CMI Hospital to Launch AI Lab in Bengaluru
Aster CMI Hospital has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) to establish an AI lab to better understand disease patterns and improve treatment outcomes through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
The lab was established to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) products in the healthcare domain and to bridge the gap between clinical medicine and technology by training healthcare professionals in AI. Aster CMI Hospital has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) to establish an AI lab to better understand disease patterns and improve treatment outcomes through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
The lab was established to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) products in the healthcare domain and to bridge the gap between clinical medicine and technology by training healthcare professionals in AI.
Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, Lokesh B., Consultant Neurology at the hospital, and Phaneendra K Yalavarthy, Professor of Medical Imaging, Department of Computational and Data Sciences, IISc, helped launch the lab.
Prof. Phaneendra K Yalavarthy and his team will collaborate with Aster CMI on the 'Development of Deep Learning Methods for Automated Tracking and Segmentation of Nerves in Ultrasound Images.'
Sriram Ganapathy, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IISc, has been working on a project called 'Automatic Acute Stroke Symptom Detection Using Mobile Health Technologies,' as well as audio analytics in neurological disorders. Aster CMI believes that these initial projects will have a direct impact on current clinical neuroscience practice.
"With the use of AI, doctors and medical providers will now be able to deliver a more accurate diagnosis in the shortest possible time, which can aid the treatment journey," Dr. Moopen said at the launch. Furthermore, AI would be a significant step toward predictive and proactive data analytics, which would improve patient preventive care recommendations. We are delighted to collaborate with IISc.
"AI-powered medical technologies have been rapidly evolving and have become powerful adjunct tools in clinical practice," said Prof. Phaneendra K Yalavarthy, who was instrumental in establishing the lab by providing computational infrastructure and expertise.
The broad scope of digital medicine, particularly to enable the 4P model of medicine (predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory), necessitates natural collaboration among academic institutions and medical institutions.
According to him, the artificial intelligence lab is a collaborative effort to develop these AI technologies in hospital settings so that the translation to the clinic is seamless. The collaborative lab's initial focus will be in neurology, and it will later be expanded to other clinical specialties.
“We are grateful to Aster CMI for allowing us to establish this lab in their hospital in order to collaborate on the development of some of these AI technologies for healthcare. "With a focus on translation to the bedside, this collaborative lab will enable the development of highly impactful research and technologies,” he said.
