The IISR has already granted non-exclusive licenses to four Indian companies for commercial manufacturing of bio-capsules.

At an international virtual event on Thursday, the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR) of the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lysterra LLC, a Russia-based company, for the commercialization of biocapsule, an encapsulation technology for bio-fertilization.

The IISR's unique microbial encapsulation method is utilized to encapsulate all agriculturally significant microorganisms for the intelligent distribution of helpful microorganisms as bio-fertilizers to crops.

The IISR has already granted non-exclusive licenses to four Indian companies for commercial manufacturing of bio-capsules utilizing this novel technology.

Mohapatra, Director General of ICAR, officiated the virtual meeting that witnessed the international MoU signed. Lysterra LLC, known for its crop protection products, was represented by its president Vladimir Zarev, general director Liudmila Alginina, and marketing head Anastasia Romanovskaya.

Dr. Mohapatra believes that efforts to create new technologies and commercialize them should go hand in hand for the overall growth of the agriculture industry. He recognized that the desire for new technologies from foreign businesses was evidence of its efficacy.

C.K. Thankamani, Director of the IISR, stated that Lysterra LLC was the first foreign business to commercialize the IISR's microbial encapsulation technology. She called it a "glorious moment" for the institute.

The occasion was attended by K. Srinivas, Assistant Director-General, Intellectual Property, and Technology Management; J. Rema, former Director, IISR; R. Dinesh, Principal Scientist, IISR; and Sudha Mysore, CEO, Agriinnovate India Ltd.
