IMD Forecasts Heatwaves in Some Areas and Expects Rainstorms in South, East, and Northeast India

Weather updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicate a mix of conditions across the nation. While certain areas are expected to face scorching heat, others are gearing up for rainfall and thunderstorms.

In regions like west Rajasthan, temperatures soared between 43°C and 45°C on May 7, surpassing the usual range for this time of year by 2-3°C. Similar hot spells were felt in east Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, and Telangana, where the mercury climbed above 40°C.

IMD forecasts indicate that isolated parts of east and west Rajasthan, along with west Madhya Pradesh, will continue to experience heatwave conditions until May 10. Interior Karnataka is also bracing for a heatwave on May 8.

On the other side, a shift in weather patterns promises relief for some regions. Over the next week, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in the northeastern states. West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand are also expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds ranging from 40-50 km/h from May 8 to 12.

Moving southward, isolated to scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are predicted in areas extending from east Vidarbha to north Tamil Nadu over the next five days. Kerala and Mahe can anticipate increased rainfall during May 8 to 12.

Northwest India is set to experience the impact of a fresh Western Disturbance starting May 9, leading to scattered to fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms in regions including Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand until May 12. Additionally, dust storms and thunderstorms with gusty winds are forecasted over east Uttar Pradesh on May 8 and 9, and over Haryana and Rajasthan on May 10 and 11.

Overall, while different regions of India are preparing for distinct weather patterns, such as heat waves or rainfall, the IMD recommends locals and authorities to be informed about the most recent forecasts and take appropriate measures to lessen any negative effects.
