India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several regions of South and Central India. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, and North Interior Karnataka are expected to experience isolated instances of heavy downpours in the coming days.

A series of weather systems are currently influencing the conditions. The Southwest Monsoon is set to withdraw from parts of West Rajasthan and Kachchh around September 23, as conditions become more favorable. An upper air cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal, in conjunction with another circulation over northern Thailand, is contributing to the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around the same date. This system is likely to intensify and impact weather across the region.

Central India Forecast

Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh may see isolated heavy rainfall between September 23 and 27, while Madhya Pradesh will experience similar conditions from September 24 to 27.

Rainfall in East and Northeast India

Light to moderate rainfall is expected over Odisha and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, with isolated heavy showers likely on September 23. Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Northeastern states will also experience scattered rain, with heavier rainfall forecast from September 23 to 27 in regions like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Hot and humid weather is predicted for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and several northeastern states during this period.

Rainfall Over Northwest and West India

Most of northwest India, including Rajasthan, will remain largely dry. However, isolated to scattered rain is likely in Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch, with isolated heavy showers predicted in Marathwada, Konkan, Goa, and parts of Gujarat between September 23 and 27.

South Peninsular India

Coastal and North Interior Karnataka will see widespread rainfall, while regions like Telangana, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka can expect scattered rainfall over the week. Heavy rain is anticipated over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on September 21, while Telangana and North Interior Karnataka will see heavy downpours from September 21 to 25.
