IMD Issues Thunder squall & Heavy Rain Alert over These Parts of India; North to Experience Heavy Rain during 4th to 6th May
The low-pressure area lies over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. It is very likely to become more marked over the same region during next 24 hours, concentrate into a depression over the Andaman Sea & adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours and likely to intensify further thereafter.

Due to strong southeasterly/easterly wind condition in the lower levels likely during 4th-6th May over northern plains of India, scattered to fairly widespread rain/thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) likely over this region during the period with peak activity on 4th & 5th May when isolated thundersquall likely over the region, says the weather forecast in its morning report.

Western Himalayan region (Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) also likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rain/thundershowers accompanied with isolated hail, lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) during 4th-6th May.
Intense Thunderstorm Activity to Continue over Northeast India & adjoining Eastern states
Ongoing intense thunderstorm activity over Northeast India & adjoining Eastern states also likely to continue during next 5 days.
As per yesterday’s reports, rain/thundershowers observed at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram & Tripura and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan.
Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at few places over West Assam and at isolated place over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad while minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Rajasthan; at isolated places over Saurashtra & Kutch and West Madhya Pradesh.
