IMD Predicts Extremely Heavy Rainfall Along with Storm in These States for Next 3 Days

The Meteorological Department forecasted widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms or lightning over Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep until August 4, and over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on August 6.

In the last 24 hours, several south Indian states, including Tamil Nadu, have experienced heavy rainfall. Now the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that extremely heavy rainfall is expected to continue over parts of South Peninsular India for the next three days. 

Meanwhile, subdued rainfall activity over central parts of the country is expected to continue until August 4 and then gradually increase. At mean sea level, the western end of the monsoon trough is north of its normal position, while the eastern end is near its normal position. From August 5 onwards, the monsoon trough is very likely to be near or south of its normal position.

The Meteorological Department forecasted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms or lightning over Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep until August 4, and over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on August 6.

Until Saturday, similar weather conditions will prevail in Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe.

Isolated heavy rain is expected over south interior Karnataka on August 6, north interior Karnataka between August 4 and 6, and Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on August 6. On August 6, coastal Karnataka will experience similar weather conditions.

"Isolated extremely heavy rainfall also likely over Kerala & Mahe and adjoining Tamil Nadu during 02nd-04th; South Interior Karnataka on 03rd-05th; and over Coastal Karnataka during 02nd-05th August, 2022," the IMD said in its weather bulletin.

Heavy rain is also forecast for central India and parts of the west coast. The weather service predicts widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms or lightning over Konkan and Goa between August 4 and 6, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Madhya Maharashtra on August 5 and 6, and Vidarbha and Marathwada on August 6, 2022.

Heavy rain is also expected in the country's eastern and northeastern states. On August 3, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms or lightning is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, and on August 5 and 6, over Odisha. Heavy rain is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until August 5.
