The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has identified a Western Disturbance as an important weather system affecting regions north with a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies. Concurrently, a cyclonic circulation hovers over northeast Rajasthan and its surroundings at the lower tropospheric level. These systems are expected to usher in isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next 3 to 7 days.
IMD Warns: Eastern Regions Brace for Wet Conditions
In the east, a cyclonic circulation persists over north Bangladesh, while another lies over east Assam and its vicinity in the lower tropospheric levels. This setup is likely to trigger fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next week. Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are anticipated particularly over Arunachal Pradesh from April 4-7. 2024.
IMD Predicts: Continued Rainfall Expected in Central and Southern Regions
A trough or wind discontinuity extending from south Tamil Nadu to southeast Madhya Pradesh in the lower tropospheric levels is anticipated to bring isolated light rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe from April 5-10. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are also expected to experience rainfall from April 7-9.
IMD's Temperature Trends and Forecasts
Yesterday, maximum temperatures soared to 40-42°C over several areas including Vidarbha, parts of south Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, Telangana, north interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and isolated pockets in southeast Uttar Pradesh, North Interior Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and south interior Tamil Nadu. Departures from normal were noted, reaching 3-4°C in isolated pockets across Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Telangana.
IMD Forecasts Impending Heat Wave and Warm Nights
The IMD has issued warnings for heat wave conditions in isolated pockets over North Interior Karnataka, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema from April 4-6, with additional alerts for Telangana and Vidarbha on April 5 and 6. Warm night conditions are expected in isolated pockets over Odisha, North Interior Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha during the same period.
Moreover, hot and humid weather is anticipated over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, and Konkan and Goa from April 4 to 8, with specific dates outlined for each region. These forecasts provide valuable insights for residents and authorities to prepare and take necessary precautions amidst the changing weather patterns across the country.
