International Symposium Addresses River Ganga's Ecosystem Health
The International Symposium on the Changing Status of River Ganga's Ecosystem Health, held in Lucknow, brought together global experts to discuss strategies for conservation and management, addressing the challenges facing the iconic river.
The Aquatic Ecosystem Health & Management Society, South & Southeast Asia Chapter, in collaboration with esteemed partners including ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, Central University of South Bihar, University of Delhi, Aquatic Biodiversity Conservation Society, Lucknow, and Vijnana Bharati (Vibha Bihar State), orchestrated a groundbreaking International Hybrid Symposium.
Focused on the theme of 'Changing Status of Ecosystem Health of the River Ganga: An Update and Review', the event unfolded in hybrid mode on 10 and 11 June 2024.
Renowned luminaries in the field graced the symposium, including Dr. M. Munawar, President of the Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Management Society, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Former Vice-Chancellor of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, Dr. U. K. Sarkar, Director of ICAR-NBFGR & President of ABCS, Dr. Ram Kumar, Former Dean of Central University of South Bihar, the esteemed Dolphin Man of India, Padmashri Prof. R. K. Sinha, Dr. B. W. Pandey, Director of the Centre for Himalayan Studies at the University of Delhi, Dr. B. K. Chaudhary, Former Director of the Department of Fisheries in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Dr. Shyam Narayan Labh, Former Head of Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Their collective expertise illuminated the current state of the Ganga's ecosystem health, offering invaluable insights and paving the way for discussions on conservation and management strategies.
With an impressive attendance of 100 participants, the symposium served as a pivotal platform for global experts, researchers, and practitioners to converge, deliberate, and chart a course toward safeguarding one of the world's most vital river ecosystems.
