Women: The Unsung Heroes

Consider a world where men and women are treated equally. A world without bias, stereotypes, or discrimination. A diverse, equal, and inclusive world. A world in which diversity is valued and appreciated. We can achieve women's equality by working together.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a worldwide celebration of women's historical, cultural, and political accomplishments. The day was also celebrated in favor of global action against gender inequality. We all know that the world would not function without women. Today is the day to recognize them for their efforts!

International Women’s Day 2022: History

International Women's Day, or IWD for short, began as a labor movement and has now evolved into an internationally recognized yearly celebration.

In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter labor hours, higher pay, and the opportunity to vote.

Clara Zetkin came up with the idea of making the day international. In 1910, she proposed the idea at a Copenhagen International Conference of Working Women. There were 100 women at present, representing 17 nations, and they unanimously agreed with her suggestion.

When the United Nations began commemorating the day in 1975, it became official. "Celebrating the Past, Planning for the Future" was the UN's first theme (adopted in 1996).

International Women's Day has evolved into a day to commemorate how far women have progressed in society, politics, and economics, but the day's political roots imply that strikes and protests are held to raise awareness of ongoing inequalities.
