Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI on Wednesday night from his residence in connection with INX media corruption case and produced in a special CBI court today.

He has been arrested on the basis of a warrant issued by a competent court, said a spokesperson of CBI.

Doctors from the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital conducted a medical examination at the CBI headquarters after his arrest, according to sources. Chidambaram has been kept in the suit No. 5 of the CBI Guest House on the ground floor of the agency headquarters, they said.

He will be produced before a special CBI court today, where the agency will seek his remand.

Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General said that Chidambaram has tremendous potential of not cooperating in the probe because he is highly intelligent. Mehta also says that even Chidambaram's son Karti underwent custodial interrogation in the case.

Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal and lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, tells the court that it is illegal to take people in remand on the ground of evasive replies. He also opposes custodial interrogation of Chidambaram saying no allegation of tampering of evidence has been made by CBI.

Interestingly, back in 2011 of July 30, the former Union Home Minister was the main guest at the inauguration event of CBI headquarters where he had spent the last night.
