The lists of farmers submitted by the banks to the Maharashtra government as the beneficiaries of loan waiver have serious discrepancies reported. The lists have farmers with same Aadhaar and bank account numbers. Maharashtra government had announced the loan waiver worth Rs. 34000 crore in June this year.
According to the report given in Indian Express, the incorrect lists have come from national banks, district cooperative banks and commercial banks. The lists include 253 farmers’ name with same Aadhaar number 100000000000. More than 50 farmers have the Aadhaar number 11111111111.
Another discrepancy in the data is one farmer owns the same loan account at least six times. Some names are repeated thrice in the lists provided by the banks.
Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis has convened a meeting of the State Level Bankers’ Committee(SLBC) to discuss the issue. According to a senior official in SLBC, the errors have been committed by the respective banks. So, SLBC has no role in putting same Aadhaar numbers for different farmers.
