Karnataka Kitchen taps soon to pour treated SEWAGE water in glasses

Karnataka,one of the states of Indian peninsula which has been fighting with drought years at a stretch now. Many disputes and upheaval has been hovering the state due to the unavailability of water for agriculture and drinking purposes. The stakeholders of the state to address the particular issue have been looking around for a viable solution. Lately, Cloud seeding options have been looked into as a probable solution. And now, Bengaluru has been working to treat its sewage water.

Karnataka,one of the states of Indian peninsula which has been fighting with draught years at a stretch now. Many disputes and upheaval has been hovering the state due to the unavailability of water for agriculture and drinking purposes. The stakeholders of the state to address the particular issue have been looking around for a viable solution. Lately, Cloud seeding options have been looked into as a probable solution. And now, Bengaluru  has been working to treat its sewage water.

The polluted sewage water is to be treated to get rid of the pollutants and treated water is to be pumped to fill tanks/lakes of neighboring districts at a cost of ₹950 cr. Project will begin by filling 65 tanks in the first phase during next year. The project also stretches to fill 100s of more tanks later. This will recharge ground water and rejuvenate long dried streams in the parched and consecutively drought affected districts and farmers.

If everything works well, it will be the first state to reuse treated urban waste water at such a large scale. Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri. Siddaramaiah breaks ground to commence the work. This project is part of a larger initiative to use more than 10 TMC of treated urban waste water to fill tanks in Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban Dists at a cost of more than ₹2500 cr.

This will not only be helpful for the farmers to feed their crops sufficient water, but will also help the authorities to provide sufficient drinking water to the states’ population. If this fits correct as the solution of the jigsaw problem, This model can be used to the problem of urban sprawl which the country has been facing and unable to find viable answers to the polluted lakes and water collected ponds etc.
