KCC: Karnataka Stands First in Distribution of Kisan Credit Cards & Loans

Karnataka once again topped the list for cooperative banks, with 31.25 lakhs KCCs with existence of operative of 31.25 lakhs KCCs by the end of March 2022.

Among five States in southern India, Karnataka has the highest number of operative Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) issued by cooperative banks, regional rural banks, and commercial banks with the total number of issued cards standing at 47.37 lakhs by the end of March 2022.

The outstanding amount under all KCCs of three types of banks in Karnataka stood at ₹1,75,226.10 crore.

In order to give farmers flexible and simplified loan support from the banking system through a single window for their farming and related operations, the KCC plan was created in 1998.

KCCs can be obtained by individual farmers or joint borrowers who are owner cultivators, tenant farmers, oral lessees, and sharecroppers, as well as by self-help organizations or Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of farmers.

Andhra Pradesh is Next

According to the Reserve Bank of India's recently released "Report on Trends and Progress of Banking in India 2021-22," Andhra Pradesh came in second place and all banks issued 45.77 lakhs KCCs (56,125.33 crores), followed by Telangana - 42.73 lakh (40,611.34 crores), Tamil Nadu - 30.55 lakh (31,609.25 crores), and Kerala - 19.37 lakh (27,953.85 crores).

Karnataka once again topped the list for cooperative banks, with 31.25 lakhs KCCs with existence of operative of 31.25 lakhs KCCs by the end of March 2022.

In Karnataka, there were two lakhs more operational KCCs in 2022 than there were in 2021 (29.25 lakhs vs. 31.25 lakhs). As of June 2020, Karnataka has a loan recovery rate of 95.1%, compared to an average of 90.9% for the southern region.

Tamil Nadu leads the way with 17.44 lakh operational cards issued by cooperative banks, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 15.35 lakh, Telangana with 9.28 lakh, and Kerala with 6.67 lakhs.

Karnataka had the largest number of cooperative banks outstanding under operational KCCs at ₹1,44,511.43 crore by March 2022, followed by Andhra Pradesh with ₹12,136.26 crores, Tamil Nadu with ₹9,124.19 crores, Telangana with ₹4,968.60 crores, and Kerala with ₹5,324.11 crores.

RRBs in various States

Telangana has the most active KCCs issued by Regional rural banks with 14.65 lakhs, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 9.46 lakh, Karnataka with 6.68 lakhs, and Kerala with 6.65 lakh cards.

Telangana had a balance under operating KCCs under RRBs of 12,695.94 crores, Karnataka had one of 11,701.01 crores, AP had 11,569.01 crores, and T.N. had 502.40 crores.

There are 9.44 lakh active KCCs issued by commercial banks in Karnataka, 9.05 lakh in Kerala, 20.96 lakhs in Andhra Pradesh, 12.73 lakhs in Tamil Nadu, and 18.8 lakhs in Telangana.

By the end of March 2022, commercial banks had distributed 19,013.66 crores, Kerala 17,068.52 crore, Andhra Pradesh 32,420 crore, Tamil Nadu 21,982.65 crore, and Telangana 22,946 crore.

In Karnataka, there are 1,274 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies with a total value of 11,214 lakhs. According to the research, there are 4,303 viable PACS, 1,570 possibly viable PACS, 106 inactive PACS, 50 defunct PACS, and 219 additional PACS.
