Kerala has achieved a 17percent increase in milk production during the past one year said Animal Husbandry Minister K. Raju. “It is expected that the State could achieve self-sufficiency in milk production within next two years,” he said.

He was addressing a gathering at the high-tech dairy farm at Kollam after inaugurating the satellite dairy units of the farm.

The Minister said the government had earmarked Rs.104 crore for the dairy sector in this year’s Budget. Apart from that, about three times that figure had been earmarked by local self-government bodies for the sector.

He said a Food Technology Institute with the cooperation of the Kerala Veterinary University would be established at the high-tech dairy farm complex of the Kerala Livestock Development Board at Kulathupuzha of Kollam district.
