The State government is planning to implement a scheme to promote homestead cultivation. Under the scheme, all households in the State will be supplied with saplings of neem and curry leaves.

The free supply of saplings would begin in November under the auspices of the State Medicinal Plants Board, said Health Minister K.K. Shylaja. The board would establish three procurement centres for medicinal plants produced by farmers. Procurement centres would be set up in all districts later. The Minister said that an expert committee had been constituted to prepare an action plan for popularisation of medicinal plant cultivation.
