Kerala State Animal Husbandry Awards Presented

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan distributed the State level and district level Karshaka Awards 2016 instituted by State Animal Husbandry Department in a function held at Tagore Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram.

In his inaugural speech, Chief Minister emphasized the need for achieving self-sustainability in the livestock sector. Livestock has emerged as one of the key components of agriculture sector in Kerala. It contributes 3.03 percent of the total GDP and 30 percent of the State agriculture GDP. During the last year Kerala has achieved 17 percent increase in domestic milk production. He added that farmers’ efforts play a significant and admirable role in fulfilling the agricultural initiatives taken by the government.

Aloshy Joseph ( Best Dairy farmer), Anilkumar T V (best commercial dairy farm), Sarasamma K G (best-integrated farmer), Wilson Mathew (best poultry farmer). Ashley John (best woman entrepreneur), Sojan George (best younger farmer), John V John (best animal welfare activity) received the awards.

Adv. K. Raju, Minister for Forest & Animal Husbandry presided over the function. Anil . X IAS, Secretary Animal Husbandry Department welcomed the program. Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat President V.K Madhu, Dr. N. N Sasi, Director of Animal Husbandry Dept also spoke. Farmers, entrepreneurs, officials from various departments are also present.
