As per latest reports, the movement of vehicles at Delhi-Meerut Expressway have been completely halted around 7.30 am today as the farmers protesting against the three new farm bills at the Ghazipur-Ghaziabad border for the last 27 days blocked all its carriageways.

The sudden blockade has prompted the Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police to divert traffic to alternate borders, like the ones at Anand Vihar, Apsara and Bhopra. Keeping in view that the blockade could lead to traffic disorder during the morning office hours, UP administration and Delhi Police officials are discussing to reopen at least one carriageway with the protesting farmers.

Farmers have occupied the expressway’s carriageway as well as service roads going towards Delhi from Ghaziabad since they started their agitation last month.

This is the 2nd time since Monday that the expressway has been blocked completely by farmers, who allege that several cultivators from UP and Uttarakhand were stopped from proceeding to Delhi borders & join the protest.

The Singhu & Tikri borders where farmers are protesting continue to remain shut while one carriageway at the Chilla (Delhi-Noida link road) border is kept open for vehicles entering Delhi from Noida. People going to Noida are being diverted to other borders like DND, New Ashok Nagar, Kondli, Kalindi Kunj and Dallupura.
