The world is facing Corona virus from nearly 9 months now. This year has become the year of pandemic, as corona virus is continuously affecting our lives and spreading speedily all over the world. At first, corona seemed to be pneumonia like health issue, but it can affect the whole human body.

In most of the people, coronavirus infection symptoms begin with fever, cold and scratchy throat. In some people, some uncommon symptoms have also been observed like severe headache and loss of smell and taste.

These symptoms prove that corona virus is not just a respiratory issue, it attacks nervous system too in some patients.

Effect of Corona on Nervous System

A study published in Annals of Neurology recorded that some people can also face neurological issues like, headache, dizziness, lack of concentration, decrease in alertness before other symptoms including scratchy and itchy throat, and fever.

For this study, the researchers observed on 19 coronavirus patients at Northwestern Medicine to analyse the occurrence of neurological symptoms of the disease, before the common cold, cough and fever.

Lead Author of this study, Igor Koralnik, professor of neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of medicine said, “It is really important for common people and physicians to be aware for this, because Corona virus infection may show some neurological symptoms in the starting before any fever, cough and respiratory issues.”

One more review research, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, observed the possible mechanism by which SARS-CoV-2 caused neurological symptoms by comparing it with similar coronaviruses MERS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV-1, which are known to affect the central nervous system.

Condition in India

There is a steady reduction in new coronavirus cases in India for the last few weeks, but there is a sharp rise in some states including Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand.

Recently, UK-based medical journal The Lancet alerted India of refraining from presenting a more optimistic assessment by putting a too positive spin on the data.

To be safe and protect yourself from corona virus infection, regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose while sneezing is recommended. And avoid contact with anyone facing respiratory illness. Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth and don’t forget to carry sanitizer wherever you go.

Precautions can save you from corona, so try to stay home and you will be safe.
