Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ujwa New Delhi Hosts Field Day; Experts Offer Insights on Mustard Cultivation
Krishi Vigyan Kendra organizes a field day, featuring experts sharing valuable insights on mustard crop cultivation techniques.
On February 21, 2024, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Ujwa, New Delhi, organized a Field Day event for the mustard crop in the Jaunti village of Kanjhawala Block. During the event, Dr D.K. Rana, the KVK Head, welcomed the farmers and highlighted the significance of mustard cultivation in the Delhi region. Despite mustard being a major crop, its productivity suffers due to a lack of scientific production techniques.
In response to this, under the National Food Security Mission, the Agricultural Science Center, Delhi, showcased improved varieties of mustard, specifically the R.H.-725 variety, across various villages in Delhi's rural areas, including Jaunti, Dhansa, Jafrabad, Ujwa, Kajipur, Isapur, and Samsapur. Farmers were given seeds of the R.H.-725 variety, sulfur, trichoderma, and fungicides.
Dr. Samar Pal Singh, a specialist in plant science, explained that the R.H.-725 variety of mustard was developed by Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana, with a yield of 25.00 quintals per hectare and an oil content of 40-42 percent.
Dr. Singh further conducted a detailed tour of the mustard displays and provided extensive information about the R.H.-725 variety to the farmers. It was observed that the number and size of pods and seeds in the displayed R.H.-725 variety were higher compared to other local varieties.
Dr. Singh urged farmers to use the seeds of this improved variety in the upcoming mustard sowing season and to distribute them among fellow farmers. Additionally, Kailash, an agricultural extension specialist, informed about various training programs organized by the Agricultural Science Center, Delhi, including organic farming, goat farming, mushroom production, vermicomposting, modern dairy farming, beekeeping, and more.
During the program, progressive farmers such as Kuldeep, Jay Bhagwan, Vinod, and others shared their experiences and expressed their satisfaction with the displayed crops.
