Kumbh Mela 2019: President Kovind to Unveil 30 Feet Tall Statue at Kumbh Today

President Ram Nath Kovind will visit Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh today. He will take part in several programmes, like offering prayers at Sangam at Kumbh Mela, meeting select saints and seers.

President Ram Nath Kovind will visit Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh today. He will take part in several programmes, like offering prayers at Sangam at Kumbh Mela, meeting select saints and seers. 

The President will also unveil the large statue of Maharishi Bhardwaj in the town. Maharishi Bhardwaj is one of the Hindu sages whose accomplishments are detailed in the Puranas. 

This statue is reportedly 30 feet tall and has been prepared in about 30 days. President Kovind will also participate in an event related to Green Kumbh. 

Kumbh Mela is the largest human congregation in the world, with over 130 million pilgrims expected to participate in the festival. Pilgrims belief that taking a dip in the holy water of Ganges River will pave the way for their salvation and would rid them of their sins.  

The 55-day long Prayagraj Kumbh Mela began on 15th January and will end on 4th March. It is not only witnessing religious and spiritual activities but also generating awareness on cleanliness (swachhta). 

President will inaugurate a two days Gandhian Resurgence Summit on the occasion of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s 150 birth anniversary. The summit is being organised by the Parmarath Niketan, the Harijan Sevak Sangh and the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance at the camp of Parmarth Niketan Ashram at Arail side of Mela. 

President Kovind will be accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor, Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya at the function.
