KVK’s efforts for welfare of Arunchal’s Farmers

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Cachar was established on 28th January 1995 to cater the needs of the farming community of the district. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a district level Farm Science Centre established by the ICAR for speedy transfer of technology to the farmer’s field. The aim of KVK is to reduce the time lag between the generation of technology at the research station and its transfer to the farmer’s field for increasing production and income on a sustained basis.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Cachar is working with objective of promptly demonstrating the latest agricultural technologies to the farmers through its mandatory activities viz., on farm testings (OFT) for technology assesment and refinement, front line demonstrations (FLD) to promptly demonstrate the tested agricultural technologies to the farmers as well as other extension works like imparting training for capacity building to the farmers, farm women, rural youth & school drop outs and extension functionaries.

The KVK is located at Arunachal under Borkhola Development Block. The Centre is 7 KM away from the Silchar town and well connected by roads and train. The airport Kumbhirgram is 35 kms from this KVK. The state capital Dispur (Guwahati) is 328 kms away.The KVK has 50 ha of land.  Out of which 12 ha road and building, 2 ha Demonstration unit, 10 ha field crops, 6 ha orchard / Agro- forestry and 20 ha pond and waste land and forest.

Altogether 100 farmers have attended the programme.
