Former Finance Minister and key political leader of India, Arun Jaitley passed away today (24 August 2019) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He was 66 years old.

Former Finance Minister and key political leader of India, Arun Jaitley passed away today (24 August 2019) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He was 66 years old.

Jaitley was rushed to AIIMS hospital on 9th August 2019 after he complained of breathlessness & restlessness. He was put under observation at the Cardio-Neuro-Centre of the hospital, but, his condition kept on deteriorating.

According to hospital sources, he had been on life support since a week and was being monitored by a team of doctors.

Announcing the former finance minister’s demise, AIIMS issued a statement saying that "It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon'ble Member of Parliament & former Finance Minister Government of India at 12:07 pm on 24 August, 2019. He was admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi on 09/08/2019 & was treated by a multidisciplinary team of senior Doctors."

Jaitley was not well since last a long time. In 2018, he underwent a kidney transplant surgery, after which he was put under isolation. Four years before, in 2014, Jaitley underwent a bariatric surgery for the excess weight he had gained due to diabetes.
