Lok Sabha Election 2019: The countdown for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections has finally come to an end as the Election Commission has announced the dates for the general elections at a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan on Sunday.
The Election Commission of India has announced that the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect from Sunday. CEC Sunil Arora said that any violation ahead of the Lok Sabha elections will be dealt with in the strictest manner.

The poll panel will also announced dates for assembly elections in four states, like Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha, where the polls will be held simultaneously. Three election commissioners, including the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora is addressing the media.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held for 543 seats on nearly 10 lakh polling booths across the country, with nearly 90 crore voters exercising the franchise. Lok Sabha elections will be held in 6-7 phases.

The Lok Sabha election 2019 is expected to start on April 10 and end on May 15.

The Congress had alleged earlier that Election Commission was deliberately delaying the formal announcement of poll dates to allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conclude his official travel programmes.

The present term of Lok Sabha ends on June 3. Notification for the first phase could be issued by the end of March for voting some time in early April, according to sources.

The required electronic voting machines and paper trail machines are also ready to be deployed in nearly 10 lakh poling stations across 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.

There are high chances that the elections being spread across seven to eight phases this time. On Saturday, the Election Commission had convened a meeting to assess preparedness for the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

As the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has been dissolved, the EC is bound to hold fresh polls there as well within a six-month period, which will end in May.
