March 21 is Celebrated as World Wood Day at Banda University of Agriculture & Technology

Forest Products Utilization of College of forestry celebrated World Wood Day on 21st March, 2022. One day virtual seminar on sustainable utilization of wood for people and planet was inaugurated at Banda University of Agriculture & Technology, Banda where two resource persons Wong Vi Hong, Business development officer from Agritix wood identification app developer and Subhash Jolly, President wood technology Association India delivered their lecture.

Forest Products Utilization of College of forestry celebrated World Wood Day on 21st March, 2022. One day virtual seminar on sustainable utilization of wood for people and planet was inaugurated at Banda University of Agriculture & Technology, Banda where two resource persons Wong Vi Hong, Business development officer from Agritix wood identification app developer and Subhash Jolly, President wood technology Association India delivered their lecture.

The programme was started with photo contest organized by Dr. Yogesh Sumthane, Assistant Professor, Department of Forest Product and Utilization. He displayed the photographs of various wooden products value-added products received from various National and International participants. The Dean College of Forestry welcomed the resource person.

Wong discussed the significance of wood identification in judicial utilization of wood and said until and unless we can identify a wood we cannot decide its utilization. He informed the participants that the wood identification has been completely digitalized nowadays and his company has developed a mobile app to identify a wood within a second.

Subhash Jolly said that our country is presently having a scarcity of wood so we should plant more and more tree plans outside of the forest as road side trees or as agroforestry. He also stressed that in current scenario the industries are not much aware of the efficient and judicial utilization of wood.

Therefore, there is a need of more and more graduates of forestry and wood technologists in particular.

At the end of the programme, the vote of thanks was delivered by the co-coordinator of the event, Dr. Mohammed Nasir, Assistant Professor, Department of Forest Products Utilization College of Forestry. All programme organized and planned by Assist. Professor Dr. Yogesh Y. Sumthane Department of Forest Product and Utilization.
