Mati Kala Mahotsav: Union Home Minister Amit Shah Promotes Khadi and Rural Industries
Amit Shah praised the Prime Minister's ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, which has successfully linked Swadeshi and employment.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, addressed the Mati Kala Mahotsav in Ahmedabad on December 2, emphasizing the multidimensional significance of the Khadi movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries, including Union Minister Narayan Rane and Bhanupratap Singh Verma.
Amit Shah highlighted the historical roots of the Khadi movement, tracing it back to Mahatma Gandhi's vision during the freedom movement. He underscored how Gandhi Ji utilized Khadi to provide employment opportunities to those living in poverty, reduce reliance on foreign goods, and instill the spirit of Swadeshi and Swaraj in every village.
The Home Minister commended Prime Minister Modi for not only revitalizing the Khadi movement but also for popularizing it among the masses. He noted that the Prime Minister's visionary leadership has played a pivotal role in elevating the Khadi movement to new heights, turning it into a cornerstone of India's economic growth.
Shah emphasized that under Modi's leadership, India has become the fastest-growing economy globally, and the Khadi movement has experienced unprecedented growth. Addressing the economic inclusivity promoted by the government, Shah stated that increasing Khadi's turnover threefold translates to employment for millions of people, fostering self-reliance and contributing to the country's humane GDP growth.
During the Khadi Mati Kala Mahotsav, Shah announced the distribution of various tools and equipment, including 300 electric potter wheels, 40 agro-based food processing industry tool kits, 40 incense stick-making machines, 20 plumbing kits, and over 200 traditional charkhas, aimed at empowering local artisans.
The Home Minister also inaugurated a modernized Central Silver Plant (CSP), a crucial facility for Khadi production. The CSP, revamped at Rs 10 crore, is expected to enhance production efficiency and improve the quality of Khadi products.
Additionally, Shah inaugurated eight new post offices, offering a range of services such as mail and parcel booking, Aadhaar services, banking postal services, life insurance, rural postal life insurance, and digital certificates for pensioners. He highlighted the convenience of passport processing now available at these post offices, reducing the need for residents to travel elsewhere.
Amit Shah concluded by urging the people of Gujarat and the nation to support Khadi by purchasing products worth Rs 5,000 annually. He emphasized that if every family in the country participates, the initiative could significantly reduce unemployment, fostering economic growth and dignity for countless individuals.
