The Covid-19 pandemic period, saw many virtual programmes launched by Government Organisations for the welfare of the farmers. To take learning to the next level with the help of funding support from the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, MATYSA SETU is an android mobile app developed by ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar.The virtual learning app aims to disseminate the latest freshwater aquaculture technologies to the aqua farmers of the country. Honourable Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Giriraj Singh to launch the Online Course Mobile App Matysa Setu for the Fish Farmers 06-07-2021.

This is in line with the ambitions of the Govt of India’s flagship programme, Digital India, the app would foster the dissemination of technological information in an effective manner to inculcate the adoption of scientific methods in Aquafarming, so that farmers can produce more fish and improve their income he Govt of India’s flagship programme, Digital India, the app would foster the dissemination of technological information in an effective manner to inculcate the adoption of scientific methods in aquafarming, so that farmers can produce more fish and improve their income and reached out to more than ten thousand farmers across the country/It has a range of online learning modules in a self learning style. The app is absolutely free. 

In this regard, KRISHIJAGRAN/AGRICULTURE WORLD is promoting the event, so that many farmers come to know about the usefulness of the app and use it. 

The app has species-wise/ subject-wise Self-learning modules, where renowned aquaculture experts explain the basic concepts and practical demonstrations on breeding, seed production and grow-out culture of commercially important fishes like carp, catfish,scampi, murrel, ornamental fish, pearl farming etc. Better Management Practices to be followed in maintaining the soil & water quality, feeding and health management in aquaculture operations were also provided in the course platform

The modules are divided into small video chapters for the convenience of the learners. Additional learning materials can also be provided to the learners within the course modules. To motivate the learners and provide a lively learning experience, Quiz/Test options were also provided for self- assessment. Upon successful completion of each course module, an e-Certificate will be auto-generated. To solve any queries raised by the learner, an option has been given to submit the questions in the video chapter itself. Appropriate, specific advisories by experts will be sent to the app as push notifications.

The app has been developed as a deliverable of an innovative project titled “Capacity Building of Knowledge Intermediaries and Primary Stakeholders through Virtual Learning Approach” sanctioned to ICAR-CIFA in 2018 .With the funding support obtained, a Digital Outreach Center has been established with studio facilities to record the lectures of the experts and post-production setup..
