Minister Ravindra Choubey Inaugurates 'Millet Cafe' at IGKV Campus, Raipur

Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey officially inaugurated the "Millet Cafe" at the campus of the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on Friday, 20 January.

Millet Cafe was created to raise public awareness about minor cereal crops

Taste lover will be able to enjoy these delectable dishes, as well as other products made from small grain crops, which will be available for purchase here.

Millet Cafe will provide healthy snacks

In this Millet Cafe started in the commercial premises, various dishes made from Kodo, Kutki, Ragi and other small grain crops - Idli, Dosa, Poha, Upma, Bhajia, Kheer, Halwa, Malt, Cookies as well as traditional dishes of Chhattisgarh made from Thethri, Khurmi, Arsa, Chakoli, Sevai, Pidhiya etc. will be available to the general public.

This Millet Cafe was created to raise public awareness about minor cereal crops and to promote their use. This will be the country's first millet cafe run by a university. Krishi Vigyan Kendra Raipur will run this millet cafe, which will offer small grain dishes prepared by various women's self-help groups.

Chief Minister's Agriculture Advisor Pradeep Sharma, Agricultural Production Commissioner Dr. Kamalpreet Singh, Chairman cum Managing Director of National Seeds Corporation, New Delhi Dr. Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Dr. Arvind Kumar, Deputy Director General of International Semi-Arid Tropical Crops Research Institute (ICRISET), K.C. Paikra, Additional Director Agricultural Engineering G.K. Pidhia, Chhattisgarh Seed Development Corporation's Additional Director R.K. Senior officials of Agriculture and Horticulture Department including Chandravanshi, Additional Director Horticulture Bhupendra Pandeyand senior officers and scientists of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Administration were present at the inauguration ceremony of Millet Cafe.

Considering the nutritional and health benefits of small grain crops, the United Nations has designated 2023 as Millet Year to encourage its use.
