The Shivamogga district administration will host a millet fair (siridhanya mela) at the Kuvempu Ranga Mandira grounds in Shivamogga City, Karnataka on December 27. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the advantages of incorporating millet into one's diet.

In preparation for the event, Shivamogga's Deputy Commissioner, R. Selvamani, conducted a meeting with officials to ensure everything was in place. To kickstart the momentum, a walkathon named 'siridhanya nadige' will take place on December 22. This walkathon, commencing from Nehru Stadium at 6:30 a.m., will see participation from various stakeholders including officials, students, and representatives from different organizations. The route will cover significant streets like Mahaveera Circle, Gopi Circle, Jail Circle, and S.M. Circle.

The millet fair is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. on December 27. The Deputy Commissioner has directed officials to set up stalls showcasing various types of millet and to enlighten the public about the health benefits associated with their consumption. Additionally, the fair will offer an opportunity for millet growers, women self-help groups, and female entrepreneurs to exhibit their products.

To ensure maximum outreach, the Shivamogga City Corporation has been tasked with the responsibility of publicizing the event extensively.

The meeting held to discuss the arrangements was attended by Shivamogga Zila Panchayat CEO Snehal Sudhakar Lokhande, Agriculture Department Joint Director G.C. Pornima, along with other officials.

The millet fair is not only a platform to exhibit the significance of millets but also serves as a means to encourage healthier dietary choices among the public.
