Monsoon Makes Strides Across Central India: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Maharashtra and Karnataka

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into several regions of Central India. This comes with predictions of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Maharashtra and coastal and north interior Karnataka over the next five days.

The monsoon has reached parts of south Maharashtra, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Favorable conditions are expected to allow the monsoon's further advance into the remaining areas of central Maharashtra, including Mumbai, and Telangana within the next few days.

Here's a breakdown of the expected rainfall across different regions:

Maharashtra and Coastal & North Interior Karnataka: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls in Maharashtra (June 8-11) and Karnataka (June 8-9).

Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep: Widespread light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal: Isolated light to moderate rainfall over the next five days.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in North Eastern States:

The Northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, can expect widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next seven days due to a cyclonic circulation. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also forecast for these regions over the coming week.

Scattered Rainfall Predicted in Eastern and Northern India:

Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh can expect isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and storm in the next 4-5 days. Furthermore, Madhya Pradesh may experience isolated hailstorms and squally winds on June 8 and 9.

Light Rainfall Predicted in North Western India

Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand can expect isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning on June 8 and 9. Rajasthan might see dust storms and thunderstorms during this period.
