Monsoon Reaches Central India with Heavy Rains Expected in Konkan & Coastal Karnataka

The National Weather Forecasting Centre/Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi of the Indian Meteorological Department has said that the monsoon has reached central India with the Northern Limit of Monsoon continues to pass through Kandla, Bahraich, Raisen, Ahemdabad, Indore, Fatehpur, and Khajuraho. Under these circumstances, it is expected that the monsoon will reach the national capital by next week.

Other observations made by National Weather Forecasting were:

1. A formation of cyclonic circulation has formed over Eastern Uttar Pradesh and its surrounding areas with a height of 3.6 km above mean sea level.

2. A trough(an extended area of low atmospheric pressure) has been formed which extends from mean sea level to 0.9 km above sea level and extends from Central Pakistan to Bangladesh.

3. A formation of a cyclonic circulation has formed between 3.1 to 7.6 km above mean sea level in the Konkan region and surrounding areas.

4. A shear zone (an area where two opposing winds meet) has been formed that extends from the Konkan region to Jharkhand.

Based on this weather phenomenons the IMD says that widespread rainfall will occur in the Konkan region on June 17 and on Coastal Karnataka between June 17 to June 21 and extremely heavy falls are to be expected over Konkan and Goa region from June 19 to June 21 and over coastal Karnataka from June 18 to June 20 whereas widespread rainfall will also occur in Central, North East, and East India. The western Himalayas will also get heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and high-velocity winds while Rajasthan and Punjab will continue to face heat waves for the next 3 days.
