Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL), a joint venture between NTPC Limited and UPRVUNL, CEO Sunil Kumar inaugurated an unprecedented solar-powered unit of MUNPL's mini water scheme in Salaiya Khurd village on Wednesday.

The village of Salaiya Khurd, situated in Meja, Uttar Pradesh, has introduced a solar-powered mini-water system to tackle water scarcity and declining groundwater levels. This initiative involves a 5,000-liter water reservoir linked to four water dispensing points, catering to a minimum of 25 households. The endeavor was initiated by Sunil Kumar, the CEO of Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited. As part of the launch, a 400-meter interlocking road was also inaugurated. Additionally, the company intends to install solar streetlights throughout the village and extend the water project.

Located amidst the rugged terrain of Meja, Salaiya Khurd village, home to around 3,000 residents, has confronted significant challenges related to water supply over the years. Acknowledging the pressing requirement for a sustainable resolution, MUNPL, acting as a responsible corporate entity, has taken the initiative to introduce a segment of its ongoing solar-powered mini-water scheme. This information was shared by the officials involved in the project.

The program serves the needs of around 25 to 30 families within the village. Through this forward-thinking approach, the initiative not only guarantees an uninterrupted water supply but also lessens the villagers' reliance on distant external sources. Additionally, the utilization of solar energy aligns with the broader objective of sustainable and environmentally friendly progress. In conjunction with the establishment of the Mini Jal Yojana segment, Sunil Kumar also marked the inauguration of a 400-meter interlocking road to enhance village connectivity.

In addition to the recently launched unit, another section of MUNPL's initiative is set to be activated in the near future, further extending the coverage of this vital water distribution system within the village. Following the inauguration, CEO Sunil Kumar engaged with the villagers and their representative (Sarpanch), discussing local challenges and assuring them of ongoing necessary support.

The solar-powered mini-water scheme embodies the fusion of technology and social responsibility. Our focus is not only on addressing the water scarcity issue but also doing so in an environmentally conscious manner, and MUNPL is fully dedicated to this cause.

The implementation of sixteen handpumps in the eastern part of the village under the Mini Jal Yojana initiative by the organization marks a notable stride in eliminating water scarcity within the community. The event saw the presence of Akhila KP Patnaik, the Human Resource Head of MNUPL, along with representatives from Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam, MUNPL's CSR team, various staff members, the village Sarpanch, and other local residents.
