IARI Launches Training Program on Mushroom Cultivation for Sustainable Agribusiness

ICAR-IARI has launched a one-week training program on mushroom cultivation to promote sustainable agribusiness and skill development. The initiative aims to equip participants with advanced techniques for profitable mushroom production and processing.

The ZTM-BPD Unit, in collaboration with the Division of Plant Pathology, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), has launched a one-week training program on “Mushroom Cultivation for Sustainable Agribusiness.” The program was inaugurated on 25 August 2025 by Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of ICAR-IARI, at the ZTM & BPD Conference Hall.

Dr. Rao praised the participation of students, farmers, women, and government officials, highlighting the growing potential of mushroom cultivation as a profitable and sustainable agribusiness venture.

He emphasized the importance of such training initiatives in equipping aspiring entrepreneurs with hands-on skills and technical expertise. Dr. Rao also encouraged mentors to prepare participants for real-world challenges, enabling them to make informed decisions and build resilient enterprises.

As part of the event, Dr. Rao unveiled a training manual titled “Mushroom Cultivation for Sustainable Agribusiness,” which will be distributed to participants at the program’s conclusion.

The event also saw the presence of senior IARI scientists, including Dr. M.S. Saharan, Head of the Division of Plant Pathology; Dr. Deeba Kamil, Senior Scientist; Dr. Amrita Das, Senior Scientist; and Dr. Akriti Sharma, In-charge & Scientist (SS), ZTM & BPD Unit, who shared valuable insights to enhance the learning experience.

The five-day program aims to provide comprehensive knowledge of advanced cultivation and production techniques for various mushroom varieties. It also includes training on post-harvest processing, quality improvement, and value addition to enhance marketability and profitability.
