National Potato Day at CPRI, Modipuram

In view of the importance of the potatoes in the dietary habit of Indian Consumers and to disseminate awareness for increasing consumption and popularizing nutritional values of potatoes, the Central Potato Research Institute organized “National Potato Day” at ICAR-CPRI Regional Station, Modipuram, Meerut (UP).

In view of the importance of the potatoes in the dietary habit of Indian Consumers and to disseminate awareness for increasing consumption and popularizing nutritional values of potatoes, the Central Potato Research Institute organized “National Potato Day” at ICAR-CPRI Regional Station, Modipuram, Meerut (UP).

Shri Rajendra Aggarwal, MP, Meerut-Hapur Lok Sabha in his inaugural address praised the constant efforts and contribution of the Central Potato Research Institute in development of potato technology resulting into phenomenal increase in its production. He also highlighted the importance of potato in the dietary habit of Indian consumer.

Dr. SK Chakrabarti, Director, ICAR-CPRI stressed the need for scientists to develop latest potato technology for farmers and consumers.

On this occasion, Dr. T. Janakiram, Assistant Deputy Director General, Horticulture, Dr. A. S. Panwar, Director, ICAR-IIFSR, Modipuram and Dr. Birpal Singh, former Director, ICAR-CPRI, Shimla were special guests.

A "Potato Recipe Competition” was organized on this occassion, in which about 100 participants from 17 various institutions presented various dishes made from potato. Potato/Agriculture quiz was also organized for the farmers during the Kisan Goshthi.

About  26 various public and private organizations displayed their latest technology and information in the exhibition stalls.

A total of about 450 farmers from various states (Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh) participated in the event.
