In collaboration with the State Commission for Women, the National Commission for Women organized a one-day 'Capacity Building Training Programme' for Manipur's Women Traders in order to holistically develop women traders and create more entrepreneurial opportunities for them.

The event was attended by N Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur, Heikham Dingo Singh, Minister of Social Welfare of Manipur, and Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of NCW.

Ima Keithel in Manipur is said to be Asia's largest all-women market, with a large number of women manning the stalls. In accordance with the Commission's programmes in the North-eastern states, NCW held this one-day training programme for three Ima Keithels' women traders to improve their livelihood, social security, and overall quality of life.

N Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur, attended the event as the Chief Guest and encouraged female participants. He praised the NCW programme for women's empowerment. He stated that seven Ima markets have been built and that one more will be built soon.

In her speech, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma stated that women are present in all sectors of Manipur and have proven that they can handle anything. "We want Manipur women to sell their products on the internet as well." Women in this region should not confine themselves to Manipur. The world is changing, and women must be technologically savvy in order for their products to be distributed globally. We will give them wings to fly and train them in e-commerce and other technology so that the world comes to know about these products,” said Sharma.

The Commission invited resource persons from various government departments and the banking sector to inform and educate the women on important topics such as e-commerce, banking, tax laws, and so on. The training was broken down into three technical sessions.

The first session covered 'Knowledge of Relevant Banking Schemes and Online Banking.' The second session covered 'Knowledge of Tax Laws/GST Laws and Tax Compliances,' and the third covered 'E-Commerce Demonstration.'
