NEET UG 2024 Counselling Delayed Amid Paper Leak Controversy

NEET UG 2024 counselling process, originally set to commence on July 6, has been postponed until further notice due to allegations of a paper leak. This decision follows the Supreme Court's refusal to delay the NEET UG counselling despite the ongoing controversy. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, is scheduled to address multiple NEET UG 2024 petitions on July 8.

These petitions include demands for the cancellation and re-conduction of the entire exam, an inquiry into the operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA), and other related concerns. The NEET UG counselling process involves several rounds, including stray vacancy and mop-up rounds, for students who have successfully passed the medical entrance exam.

Eligible candidates are required to register, pay the necessary fees, submit their choices, lock them in, upload essential documents, and report to their designated institutes in person. The NEET UG counselling within the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) includes seats in government colleges, central and deemed universities, ESIC medical colleges for beneficiaries of the Insured Persons (IP) quota, and the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune.

In a related development, the NTA recently announced the results of a retest conducted on June 23 for 813 out of 1563 candidates. In the updated results, the number of top scorers decreased from 67 to 61, as six candidates who originally received a perfect score of 720/720 due to grace marks for time lost during the exam did not achieve a flawless score in the retest. However, these candidates still maintained high scores above 680.
