India’s fastest growing food ordering and delivery company, Swiggy on 12th February said that it is moving beyond food ordering space to delivery of household essentials like groceries or rations. The new facility 'Swiggy Stores' will be accessible on its mobile application and allow consumers to order anything from vegetables, medicines, kirana, meat and other daily goods. No doubt, Swiggy will face tough competition from other online grocers like Grofers, BigBasket and Amazon.

The Bengaluru-based company, which is operated by Bundl Technologies Pvt. Ltd, has signed a deal with more than 3500 stores in Gurugram for delivery of fruits, vegetables, kirana items, health supplements, baby care products and pet care products.

Swiggy that runs a mobile-based app has collaborated with online as well as offline stores to deliver products at the doorsteps. Some of its partnered stores include Fernsnpetals, Super Needs Market, Apollo Pharmacy, Le Marche, Licious, Zappfresh.com and so on.

In a statement the company said, "We are taking the first step by launching across Gurugram and will deliver from around 3,500 stores across the city. For this, we have already amalgamated with over 200 stores in categories starting from Fruits, Vegetables to Florists".

With the launch of these stores, the company hopes to become the one-stop delivery app that facilitates access to every store in the city, the statement added.

Sriharsha Majety, Swiggy CEO said, “Today’s announcement takes Swiggy to categories beyond food, where we wish to deliver the same level of pleasant experiences to costumers for their daily needs”. He further said it is the first milestone in the company’s vision to raise the quality of life for the urban customer by offering unmatched convenience.

The statement also said that the Swiggy Stores will give its merchant-partners unparalleled access to a combination of core assets to reach more existing and new consumers.  Moreover, this new initiative will give them access to an extra avenue for income.

Established in the year 2014, Swiggy at present connects consumers to more than 60,000 restaurant partners across 80 cities.
