The eagerly anticipated OUAT Farmers' Fair 2023 concluded day one in Bhubaneshwar, hosted by the second-oldest agricultural institution in India, Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT). Here are the highlights of day 1.
Several agri and allied organizations exhibited their products at the stalls at the event. The list of participants includes many more besides the eminent ones like the Department of Education, Directorate of Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil Conservation, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Government of Odisha, Agricultural Research Organizations such as CIFA, NRRI, CIWA, CHES, CTCRI, private seed preparation organizations, and agricultural machinery manufacturing companies.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology in the presence of departmental officials for strengthening agricultural research. More than 600 farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs from all districts of Odisha participated in this fair, while more than 2000 agricultural experts and intellectuals participated in it.
While addressing the gathering, Krishi Jagran's editor-in-chief MC Dominic stated, "While a large section of the Indian population is engaged in the farm sector, our country lacked a robust agri media, due to which many of our issues were not highlighted or even addressed. This was the key reason behind starting Krishi Jagran, and we are now a significant agri news media outlet with a strong presence in print and digital media, operating in multiple languages."
"After 26 years of experience in the field, I think it’s time that we understand the aspirations and approach of the farmers, and include it in the policymaking as well as research", he added.
While talking about the need of improving farmers’ conditions and the importance of holding exhibitions like OUAT’s, Prof P.K. Roul, Vice Chancellor of the university, stated, “This type of Farmer’s exhibition will help upgrade farmer’s farming ideas and income sources.”
