Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has taken a significant step towards advancing chilli cultivation by signing an agreement with Harilal Seeds Private Limited, Secunderabad, Telangana. This partnership aims to commercialize the seed production of the high-yielding chilli hybrid, CH 27. The Memorandum of Agreement was signed by Dr. GS Manes, Director of Research at PAU, and Dr. Rajesh Mishra, Director of Research at Harilal Seeds.

CH 27 is an outstanding chilli hybrid known for its resilience against major agricultural challenges, including the leaf curl virus, fruit rot, and root-knot nematodes. Its sprawling growth pattern allows it to bear fruit consistently over extended periods. The hybrid’s fruits are light green, have medium pungency, and are well-suited for powder production and processing, making it highly desirable for both commercial and culinary purposes.

According to Dr. Salesh Jindal, Principal Vegetable Breeder at PAU, CH 27 has garnered nationwide popularity due to its adaptability and consistent performance. “The hybrid is not only high-yielding but also offers multiple resistances to key diseases and pests. Its light green fruits, long in shape and medium in pungency, make it a preferred choice for growers across the country,” Dr. Jindal emphasized.

Dr. Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director of the Technology Marketing and IPR cell at PAU, highlighted the university’s dedication to bringing its innovations to the market. He pointed out that the university’s vegetable hybrids have become increasingly popular among seed companies and growers alike, with ongoing efforts to ensure these advancements benefit all stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
