People Will Get Ration and Other Essential Commodities at Their Doorsteps

To provide relief to people during nationwide lockdown and coronavirus scare across India, the state government of Haryana has decided to supply ration along with other essential commodities under the Public Distribution System (PDS) at the doorsteps of public.

Dushyant Chautala, Deputy Chief Minister who holds the portfolio of food & civil supplies informed officials during a meeting that ration that should be given under the Public Distribution System in April must be issued by 5^th April.

He also told officials that arrangement for distribution of the PDS items in coordination with district administrations in the state should be ensured.

Under the Public Distribution System, flour is supplied by various mills. But now it has been decided to give wheat under the PDS.

Chautala also asked the District Food Supplies Controllers & District Excise and Taxation officials to ensure the availability of rice, wheat, pulses and edible items at all retail sellers in their respective jurisdictions during the lockdown.

The Food Supplies Department of Haryana has issued a list of twenty two items under the PDS, including masks, sanitisers & gloves.

The State government said that no retailer or wholesaler or chemists must hoard these items and not charge above the MRP from the public.

The rates of pulses have been approved by Nafed and the Food & Supplies and other officials are likely to hold meetings with the traders’ bodies to convey the same.

Officials have been directed to ensure adequate forage for domestic cattle and sufficient stocks of milk & its powder at processing plants. They have been asked to keep the headquarters informed in this regard.

Sufficient vegetables stocks in districts with high yield will be ensured so that those facing shortage will be supplied immediately.

The officials will also ensure availability of sufficient vehicles for transportation of necessary commodities in cooperation with the Deputy Commissioners concerned, police & transport department officers.
