A total of 1808 farmers have been asked to return the financial aid received by them under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM KISAN). The total amount that is to be recovered from these farmers, accounts for Rs 1.88 crores.

Farmers who pay income tax and those who get more than Rs 10000 monthly pension are ineligible to receive financial aid under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

PM KISAN scheme launched in 2018 is giving sleepless nights to over a thousand farmers in Ambala, District in Haryana, as they have been found ineligible for the scheme and told to return the money paid to them.

According to the data released by the department of Agriculture & Farmers welfare, 1808 farmers, including 1674 income tax payers, who had received Rs 1.7 crore have been found ineligible under the PM Kisan Scheme. Another 134 ineligible farmers, who had received Rs 18.54 Lakhs, have also been found ineligible.

Recovering this amount is going to be a challenge as most of the farmers will be reluctant to return the money stating that the government already had their details when the scheme was launched.

Who are Ineligible?

The income tax paying farmers who receive more than Rs 10000 pension are ineligible to receive financial aid under this scheme. Only farmers having land in their name in the revenue records are eligible to get the aid. According to the data there are a total of 54,747 eligible beneficiaries in the district.

The farmers had to upload their data on the portal for verification process and the ineligible cases got detected during the verification process, after their Adhaar Card and Pan Card data were matched.

Ambala Deputy Director Agriculture Girish Nagpal told the media “Farmers who have been found ineligible under the scheme have been informed. They have been requested to return the amount at the earliest.”
