PM Modi Condoles the Demise of Gujarat’s First Woman Chief Secretary Manjula Subramaniam

Due to health complications, Dr. Manjula Subramaniam passed away on Sunday in a private hospital in Vadodara.

Dr. Manjula Subramaniam, Gujarat's first female chief secretary, passed away in a private hospital in Vadodara as a result of health complications on Sunday. Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official from the 1972 batch retired in the year 2008 after serving as the state's chief secretary while Prime Minister Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat.

PM Modi has expressed his sympathies over her passing. "Anguished by the demise of veteran bureaucrat Dr. Manjula Subramaniam Ji. She was widely respected for her understanding of policy-related issues and action-oriented approach. I recall my interactions with her when I was CM. Condolences to her family and friends. Om Shanti", he tweeted.

Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel has also expressed condolences over her death. "Condolences on the passing away of the first woman Chief Secretary of Gujarat Dr. Manjula Subramaniamji. Her contribution in the development journey of the state is commendable", he tweeted via his official Twitter handle.

"I pray that God rests her soul in peace and gives strength to his relatives to bear this sorrow", the tweet added.

Additionally, Subramaniam held the positions of senior secretary and chief vigilance commissioner for the Energy and Petrochemicals Department.

She also served as the director and chair of numerous state public sector organizations until being named an extra director on the board of Gujarat Gas Limited in August 2020 for a five-year term.
