PM Modi Gets His First Dose of Covid-19 Vaccine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his first Covid-19 shot on early morning of March 1, 2021, at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. India opened the second phase of Covid vaccinations programme on March 1 and PM Modi took the lead by taking the first jab. The second phase is open to people outside the priority group.

In the second phase, people above the age of 60 and people above 45 with co-morbidities can get the vaccine shot from government and private health care centers. The vaccine will be free of cost at government centers, while the private centers are permitted to charge a maximum of Rs. 250 per dose of vaccine.

As per reports, March 1 saw 1,28,630 people above the age of 60 being vaccinated. Along with this, 18,850 people with co-morbidities were vaccinated. This took the total number of shots on March 1 to 4.27 lakh in India, as per the Health Ministry.

India had started vaccinating people against Covid-19 from January 16, 2021. The first shots were reserved for front line Covid warriors and healthcare workers.

The Co-WIN platform, which was created specifically for Covid-19 vaccination management, is now upgraded and is open for self-registration.

Doctors advise people who are vaccinated to continue wearing masks and practice social distancing. This is because the dose takes some time to come into effect. Also, you never know whether the person in front of you is vaccinated or not, so face mask is still important. In addition, it is important to take both doses of vaccine, not just one, for complete protection.
