PM Modi Praises Drone Didis Ahead of International Women's Day

In his recent 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the remarkable achievements of rural women and hailed "Nari Shakti", particularly highlighting the inspiring endeavors of the 'Drone Didis'. These women, exemplified by figures like Sunita Devi and Kalyani Prafulla Patil, are revolutionizing farming practices and fostering women's empowerment in rural India.

Sunita Devi: Sitapur’s ‘Drone Didi’

During the broadcast, PM Modi engaged in a dialogue with Sunita Devi, kindly known as 'Drone Didi' from Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. Sunita, a mother of two, shared her journey from traditional farming to mastering drone operation. Trained at the Phulpur IFFCO company in Allahabad, her first encounter with drones began at the Sitapur Agriculture Science Centre.

Sunita highlighted the practical benefits of drone technology, particularly during the rainy season when conventional farming methods face limitations. She emphasized the efficiency of drones in tasks like pesticide spraying, citing her successful application of the technology over 35 acres of land. PM Modi commended Sunita's pioneering efforts, imagining a future where 'Drone Didis' play a central role in modernizing agriculture nationwide.

In addition to Sunita's story, PM Modi also interacted with Kalyani Prafulla Patil from Maharashtra. With an MSc in microbiology, Kalyani has been at the forefront of promoting organic farming and water conservation in her village. Her initiatives, including creating organic sprays and implementing rainwater harvesting projects, exemplify the transformative potential of grassroots leadership.

PM Modi reiterated his commitment to women's economic empowerment, announcing the 'NAMO Drone Didi' scheme aimed at advancing the integration of women in rural development efforts. He also urged support for the 'Lakhpati Didis' initiative, which seeks to empower rural women to earn a minimum of Rs 1 lakh per annum through sustainable livelihood options.

The PM acknowledged the multifaceted contributions of women across various sectors, from agriculture to technology. He applauded their resilience and leadership, underscoring the vital role of women in India's journey towards progress and development.
