PM Modi to Address Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022 on 25th August
Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative that gives students a platform to solve some of the most pressing problems we face in our daily lives, instilling a culture of product innovation and a problem-solving mindset.
On August 25th at 8 PM via video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a speech at the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2022. The prime minister has consistently worked to encourage an innovative spirit throughout the nation, especially among young people.
The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) was established in 2017 with this goal in mind. SIH is a national initiative that gives students a platform to address important issues facing organizations, the government, and society.
It aims to cultivate in students a culture of product innovation, problem-solving, and unconventional thinking.
The fact that the number of teams registered for SIH has increased by a factor of four, from approximately 7500 in the first edition to approximately 29,600 in the current fifth edition, provides evidence of the event's growing popularity.
To participate in the SIH 2022 grand finale, more than 15,000 students and mentors are travelling this year to the 75 nodal centres. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) of Temple inscriptions and translations in Devanagari Scripts, IoT-enabled risk monitoring system in Cold Supply Chain for perishable food items, High-resolution 3D model of terrain, infrastructure, and roads conditions in disaster struck areas, etc. are just a few of the 476 problem statements that students from over 2900 schools and 2200 higher education institutions will tackle in the finale.
In an effort to foster an innovative culture and foster a problem-solving mindset among school students, the Smart India Hackathon - Junior has also been launched this year.
