PM Modi to Inaugurate Projects Worth Rs 6800 crore in Meghalaya, Tripura

On December 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meghalaya & Tripura to unveil projects worth over Rs 6,800 crore. The projects cover a wide range of industries, including housing, roads, agriculture, telecommunications, information technology, tourism, and hospitality.

The Prime Minister will attend the North Eastern Council's golden jubilee celebrations in Shillong. On November 7, 1972, the Council was formally established. NEC has played an essential role in the socioeconomic development of the North Eastern region, lending support to various infrastructure projects and other development initiatives across all states in the region.

Council has aided in the creation of valuable capital and social infrastructure, particularly in critical gap sectors such as education, agriculture, health, sports, water resources, tourism, and industry, among others. The Prime Minister will attend the North Eastern Council meeting at the State Convention Centre in Shillong at 10:30 a.m. Later, at a public ceremony, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the groundwork for some projects totaling more than Rs 2450 crore. To improve regional telecom connectivity, the Prime Minister will dedicate 4G mobile towers to the nation, of which more than 320 have been completed, and approximately 890 are under construction.

PM Modi will inaugurate the new IIM Shillong campus in Umsawli along with Shillong-Diengpasoh Road, improving connectivity to the new Shillong satellite township and helping to decongest Shillong. He will also lay the groundwork for four other road projects in Meghalaya, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Prime Minister will inaugurate the Spawn Laboratory at the Mushroom Development Center in Meghalaya to boost mushroom spawn production and provide skill training to farmers and entrepreneurs. He will also inaugurate the Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre in Meghalaya, which will help beekeeping farmers improve their livelihoods through capacity building and technology advancement.

In addition, the PM will dedicate 21 Hindi libraries in Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, and Assam. According to the release, the Prime Minister will lay the groundwork for six road projects in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. In addition, he will lay the groundwork for the Tura Integrated Hospitality and Convention Centre and Shillong Technology Park Phase II.

The built-up area of the Technology Park Phase II will be approximately 1.5 lakh square feet. It will open up new professional opportunities and generate over 3000 new jobs. The Integrated Hospitality and Convention Centre will include a convention hub, guest rooms, a food court, and other amenities, as well as the infrastructure needed to promote tourism and cultural heritage in the region. PM Modi will then travel to Agartala, where he will inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stone for several key initiatives worth over Rs. 4350 crores in a public function at around 2:45 p.m.

The Prime Minister has made it a priority to ensure that everyone has a place to live. The Prime Minister will launch the Grih Pravesh programme for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Rural beneficiaries. These houses, built at over Rs 3400 crore, will benefit over 2 lakh people. With a focus on improving road connectivity, the Prime Minister will lay the groundwork for widening the Agartala bypass (Khayerpur - Amtali) NH-08, which will alleviate traffic congestion in the city.

He will also lay the groundwork for 32 roads totaling more than 230 kilometres in length under PMGSY III (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) and improve 112 roads totaling more than 540 kilometres. The Prime Minister will also dedicate the Anandnagar State Institute of Hotel Management and the Agartala Government Dental College.
