PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate 107th Indian Science Congress Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 107th Indian Science Congress today (3rd January 2020) at the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK in Bengaluru. Top scientists, including 2 Nobel laureates will be among policy makers, academicians & other delegates to attend the event.

The five-day event that will continue till 7th January 2020 will have Nobel laureates Stefan Hell from Max Planck Institut Germany & Ada E Yonath, an expert in structural biology from Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel.
A Renowned cardiologist C N Manjunath and president of Nanyang Technological University, Subra Suresh, a material scientist from Indonesia will also be present in the ISC.
According to the organizers, around 15,000 people will attend the event this year.
107th Indian Science Congress, with the theme ‘Science & Technology for Rural Development’, will see partakers deliberate on the lack of communication between the scientific fraternity, industry & farmers that could reduce the agrarian crisis.
The organizers said the past few decades had witnessed great progress in the development of cutting edge science & technology. Numerous of the inventions & innovations had found applications in boosting crop productivity, improving market access, enhancing & diversifying rural livelihood profiles.
They added that but because of the gap between the innovators & farming community, the benefits could not be explored completely.
In addition, the event will provide a platform to farmers who have brought innovations in the field of agriculture.
Vice- Chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dr S Rajendra Prasad said, “Many farmers in India have become innovative & experts. We wanted to bring all of them on a single platform so that their innovations & innovative thoughts are discussed and deliberated for the whole day”.
The other events will be Science Communicators’ Meet, Children’s Science Congress, Women’s Science Congress, Formal Science Congress & Yoga Science.
The Forum of Vice-Chancellors & IIT Directors will discuss on challenges in the higher education sector. Proper security arrangements have been made for the inaugural session.
